Krislyn Arthurs: Upcoming 2024 Tour and Her Impact on Domestic Violence Awareness
Krislyn Arthurs, a singer/songwriter from northern Oklahoma, has been touring all summer with her band, Krislyn Arthurs & The TrainWrecks. “When people ask, I say we are country,” Arthurs said. Although their music is classified as country, many fans describe it as “punky country.” She adds, “Our live shows have more of a rock 'n' roll vibe than traditional country music.”
Krislyn Arthurs has many songs on Spotify and other streaming platforms, with “Shinin” being her most recent release. “My song, ‘The Judge’, gets a great reaction.” Arthurs released an acoustic version of this song but loves playing it with her full band. “That song alone has a very special place in my heart.”
Arthurs shares that hearing stories from women who escaped domestic violence helped her realize she wasn’t alone. She believes her song empowers women to feel more in control of their lives. “‘The Judge’ actually got me reported and flagged on TikTok,” she revealed. As a strong advocate for speaking out against domestic violence, Arthurs is determined to “shine a light” on the issue, as it often gets “swept under the rug.” She hopes “The Judge” will raise more awareness and continue to make an impact.
Arthurs wants to remind others that you can’t compare yourself to others in the industry. “Every path looks different,” she explained, “Learn as much as you can in the industry and do your research!” She explains that networking is important and reminds us to “set your ego aside.” “We all are out here chasing a dream.” She also said even though you think you are well prepared, things can still go wrong.
During her music journey, one memorable experience occurred in Sweetwater, Texas. Arthurs recalls, “There was a man in a wheelchair, scootering around and spinning in circles. It took me a few songs to realize he was dancing.” After the show, she sought him out to talk. It was a particularly tough year for her, and she was on the verge of giving up music. The man shared his story: before losing his leg and suffering a stroke, he had loved to dance but thought he never would again. He told her, “No matter what, you keep dancing.” That day, Arthurs made a promise to herself—to “keep dancing,” just like David.
“When I first started in the Oklahoma music scene, there were very few women out there playing shows and ‘gigging,’” Arthurs shared. She was motivated to help change that and wanted to see more women in the industry. “Since then, things have shifted, and the number of women musicians is growing. It’s exciting to see!”
Songwriters often collaborate with one another to create something new. Arthurs has done this three times throughout her career in the music industry. One of those collaborations resulted in the song “Odessa,” which is currently available on streaming platforms and was co-written with John Hill and Lyndsey Christine. "I would love to do more co-writing," Arthurs shared.
Currently Krislyn Arthurs and The TrainWrecks are getting ready to start their 2024 fall tour. They will be traveling to several states including Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, and Nebraska. “We haven't been to Missouri or Tennessee yet as a band, so we are looking forward to touring through new states,” Arthurs said.
