Hunter Hughes Band: Blending Country and Rock from Oklahoma

The Hunter Hughes Band is a red dirt and country band that is becoming well known for their high-energy performances and authentic sound. Led by Hunter Hughes on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, the group has cultivated a musical style that blends red dirt roots with rock and roll flair—a mix that has become their signature.

Joining Hunter are Chandler Shockley on bass, Jevyn Lester on lead guitar, and Jordan Cain on drums. Chandler, hailing from Elk City, brings showmanship and vocal contributions, while Jevin, whose father is a member of The Great Divide, delivers powerful guitar solos. Jordan, also from Elk City, adds experience from touring with Jonathan Tyler and Tanner Usrey.

Hunter Hughes: A Natural Path to Music

Hunter’s journey into music began at 18 when he picked up a guitar inspired by local musicians. This natural progression led him to songwriting and eventually to forming the band in 2021. He describes their love for music and performing as the driving force behind their success. The band’s influences include Oklahoma’s very own, Cross Canadian Ragweed.

Red Dirt is a genre all its own and it can go many different ways.

Fan Favorites and Unreleased Gems

Among their most popular tracks is "She's Been Sleeping," released in July, which tells the story of heartbreak and betrayal. Fans sing along to this anthem at every show. Another standout is "Cross the Devil," a swampy, outlaw-country track with rock and roll grit. The heartfelt "Back To You" explores the emotional push and pull of a toxic relationship, while "Chasing My Tail," written in a burst of inspiration at 3 a.m., has become a band favorite. One of their unreleased songs, "Bad Dream," combines mellow and upbeat elements and has already earned a strong reaction from live audiences, who often sing along despite not knowing the words.

Looking Ahead: 2025 and Beyond

The upcoming year promises to be a big one, as the band plans to release their debut album, while staying busy with live shows across the region. They are particularly eager to expand into College Station, Texas, and other new markets. Fort Worth’s Filthy McNasty Saloon and Grady’s Pub in Yukon are among their favorite venues. The former has seen wall-to-wall packed crowds, while the latter has become a staple for red dirt music, where the band nearly sold out a headlining show on January 3rd.
