Ghosts of Gray County: From Acoustic Roots to Hard-Hitting Rock

What started as a pair of singer-songwriters swapping songs in small-town Texas has transformed into Ghosts of Gray County (GOGC), a genre-blending band known for its electric live shows and evolving sound. The journey began when Taylor Patterson and Jerred Tibbets, two local musicians performing acoustic gigs together, decided to form a band. Soon after, Taylor connected with Brad Barrow, a former classmate with drumming experience, and the three created GOGC, playing at bars and restaurants around the Texas Panhandle.

Initially a trio featuring two acoustic guitars and a drum kit, GOGC quickly gained a reputation for its raw, hometown charm. Their performances combined country covers with a uniquely local vibe that resonated with audiences. Over time, their sound began to shift as new members joined. A chance meeting led Grant Fithen, founder of Loud and Heavy Booking, to join the band as lead guitarist, after he filled in for a couple of shows. Their lineup solidified further when Mason Earle, previously of the band Rain Division, became the group’s bassist after an easy audition process. With Grant on electric guitar and Mason on bass, GOGC expanded its sonic range to encompass a fusion of blues, grunge, and alternative rock, layered with a nostalgic touch of country.

The band’s unique style, influenced by their Texas roots yet unbound by any one genre, reflects their commitment to authenticity. “We don’t try to sound like anyone specific,” Grant Fithen shared. “We just write what comes naturally, things that feel important to say. That’s helped us build a sound that’s truly ours.” This natural evolution of sound led GOGC to work with notable producer Bart Rose at Fort Worth Sound for their first three releases. They also collaborated with acclaimed producer “The Machine” and metal band Post Profit on several of their latest singles, showcasing their ever-evolving style.

With their debut album currently in the works, Ghosts of Gray County has plenty in store for fans. Their first album track, “Change”, released on May 3, 2024. It’s a fitting title for a band that has continually transformed since its inception, pushing musical boundaries while maintaining the “small town” feel that made them so beloved in the first place.

This past summer, GOGC had the exciting opportunity to open for the band Hinder, marking a significant milestone in their journey. Next up, they’ll be heading to Kansas, where they’re set to perform at The Fort Tavern in Hays on November 8th. As they continue expanding their reach, GOGC brings their electrifying stage presence to new audiences, building momentum toward the release of their debut album.

Whether playing high-energy live shows that pull fans to the front of the stage or crafting tracks that explore new sonic landscapes, GOGC remains dedicated to making music they love—just as much as their fans love to hear it.
